“DINE OUT ANN ARBOR” will give area residents the opportunity
to fight AIDS by doing something they frequently do: Eat Out! 50 restaurants
from Ann Arbor and neighboring cities will participate in the annual “DINE OUT
ANN ARBOR” benefit on Friday, December 1, World AIDS Day. Local restaurants will
donate 10% of that day’s sales to the Midwest AIDS Prevention Project (MAPP),
Michigan’s largest non-profit AIDS education organization. Some of the
participating restaurants include: Gratzi, La Dolce Vita, The Chop House, Palio,
Real Seafood Co., Carson’s American Bistro, The Quarter Bistro, The Original
Cottage Inn, Arbor Brewing Company, Broken Egg, Connor O’Neill’s and Grizzly
Peak Brewing Company. The event is sponsored by the Metro Times, FOX 2, Current
Magazine and Between the Lines. The Honorary Host is Mr. Lee Thomas of FOX2. For

Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History
MDCH - Division of Health, Wellness and Disease Control in conjunction with
the Wayne Co. Health Dept. is sponsoring this event "Focusing on
Accountability." The event will be moderated by Channel 50/62's Host of Street
Beat Edward Foxworth III. Local and state leaders will attend. Health screenings
such as diabetes, blood pressure and TB will be available. HIV/AIDS
organizations will be present. The Museum is located at 315 East Warren Ave in
Detroit.

new Hutzel Hospital Kresge Auditorium
The Wayne State University Community Advisory Board (CAB) members will
participate by providing a multi-media presentation and there will be guest
speakers addressing the audience. Join us on Friday, December 1, 12:30 –
3:00 pm, for a gathering of those who are infected and affected by HIV/ AIDS.
The gathering will be held at the new Hutzel Hospital located on 3980 John R at
Alexandrine St in Detroit. Free parking is available at the upper level in the
Center Deck Parking Structure. Please enter at the sign posted “Visitors.” The
gathering will be held in the Kresge Auditorium located on the 2nd floor. There
will be speakers, the Omari Awards presented, door prizes, and lunch will be
provided. This year’s gathering is sponsored by Direct Rx, Gilead,
GlaxoSmithKline, and Diplomat Pharmacy. For additional information contact

December 1, 8-9:30 pm Wealthy Street Theater in
Grand Rapids
"Pandemic: Facing AIDS" and "thinkHIV: This is Me" will be shown at the
historic Wealthy Street Theater located at 1130 Wealthy SE, Grand Rapids, MI
49506.
Although admission is free, tickets are being handed out by SHACK members, but
won't be "required" to have them upon entering the theater. Attendess will also
receive a coupon for a "free" HIV test at a local clinic with their admission.
Lansing
December 1, 11:00 AM at the Hannah Community Center in East Lansing
Concerned community members will gather at 11:00 AM at the Hannah Community
Center in East Lansing, on December 1, to hear community leaders and HIV/AIDS
activists speak out about HIV/AIDS. This special ceremony will include a display
of panels of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt and educational placards that
were created to help educate the community about the impact that HIV/AIDS has
had locally and globally. The Greater Lansing Gay Men’s Chorus will perform as a
part of the hour long observance. In addition to the reading of proclamations
and personal accounts of living with HIV/AIDS, a Silent March will be held to
dramatize the impact that stigma plays in keeping people effectively silent
about their disease. A special AIDS Memorial Quilt display will appear at the
Kresge Art Museum at Michigan State University.

5 pm World AIDS Day Red Ribbon Dinner and Silent Auction
On December 1, 2006, World AIDS Day, the Lansing Area AIDS Network (LAAN) will
host their first annual Silent Auction and Red Ribbon Dinner, to help raise
money to support the programs and services offered to the community and to
people living with HIV and AIDS throughout mid-Michigan. The elegant sit down
dinner and Silent Auction will be held at Eagle Eye Golf Course, located at
15500 Chandler Road in East Lansing. Tickets to the event will cost $100.00 and
will include a complimentary wine and beer as well as a cash bar, hors d’oeuvres,
a sit down dinner, live entertainment and silent auction. The silent auction
will include items donated from area merchants and service providers throughout
mid-Michigan and will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Auction categories
include sports, arts and entertainment, health and wellness, leisure, travel,
food and home décor. Specific items up for bid will include an autographed
boxing glove signed by Muhammed Ali, autographed merchandise from the Houston
Rockets, a NASCAR replica racecar autographed by Ryan Newman #12, and a weeklong
stay in a beautiful vacation home near Providence, Rhode Island.
