Welcome to our alphabetical listing of websites covering a wide spectrum of health education for teens and youth for the prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Youth-Friendly Websites on HIV/AIDS and Sex Education
The Internet has a wealth of resources on HIV/AIDS, of which only a small portion is youth-friendly. The following is a resource list of web sites that were created for young people and have AIDS-related content.

Advocates for Youth

This is an extensive site for this non-profit organization which promotes HIV prevention, sexuality education, and pregnancy prevention. 

Peer Education Clearinghouse. The clearinghouse is a national database with descriptions of adolescent reproductive and sexual health peer education programs. Advocates for Youth also offers technical assistance for different aspects of program development, help in identifying programs for specific target groups, referrals to other organizations, recommended resources and other related publications.

Association of Reproductive Health Professionals 


With an online a questionnaire that tests your knowledge about birth
control, the site features basic questions as well as information about the efficacy, cost, and ability to protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
of numerous birth control methods. Further information about
STDs is available from the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention's STD hotline at 1-800-227-8922.

Central Michigan University HIV Education

A model survey to use for assessing what parents really want their children to learn in school - available here. Also, health curriculum for use in schools, including Michigan Model.

Corner Health Center

This organization in the Ann Arbor area provides health services to youth, including sexually transmitted disease and is a designated counseling and testing site for HIV.

ETR Recapp

Resource Center for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention - The site provides up-to-date, evaluated programming materials to help teachers and youth educators in their work with teens. ReCAPP provides practical tools and information to most effectively reduce sexual risk-taking behaviors.

Go Ask Alice!

This "frank and funny" sex information Website, Go Ask Alice!, run by Columbia University's Health Education Program, is now available in book form. The Go Ask Alice Book of Answers published by Owl Books, is a comprehensive review of all of Alice's answers, "from how to prevent a vaginal infection to the dangers of the popular drug GHB, also known as liquid ecstasy."

Interagency Youth Working Group

The new Web site provides resources aimed at people working with youth in developing countries on HIV/AIDS and reproductive health issues. The site includes guidance on program areas and best practices; publications; a database of more than 900 recent resources; research tools; training materials; and links to other youth Web sites. More than 15 organizations worked together to create the Web site (IYWG release, 6/29/07).

An interactive website created by the Kaiser Family Foundation offers teenagers information on pregnancy, contraception, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). It also offers tips on talking to partners or parents about sex. The STD section provides descriptions of HIV, chlamydia, and syphilis, listing the signs, symptoms and treatment possibilities. Abstinence is stressed as the best way
to prevent pregnancy; however, the site also features descriptions of condoms, birth control pills, and other birth control devices.

KidsHealth.org

The website has launched a new teen section that addresses issues such as AIDS, contraception, menstruation, eating disorders and "just about any other health topic" for kids ages 12 to 17. The new section, available 24 hours a day, was developed by the medical experts of The Nemours Foundation.

The Ruth Ellis Center

GLTBQ Youth in the Detroit metro area now have a safe refuge. The Ruth Ellis Center now provides temporary housing, a "transitional living facility" for gay and lesbian youths abandoned by their parents because of their sexual orientation. They also operate a street outreach center in Highland Park.

Let's Talk About Sex ... Education
Many parents don't talk to their kids about sex. That may be why sex educator Heather Corinna created Scarleteen.com. It's a judgment-free Web site where teens can get information on just about anything sex-related, including HIV, pregnancy and sexual health. for teens and parents. A unique feature of the site is the
"South Treybourne Diaries," a soap opera that chronicles
fictional characters dealing with sensitive issues.

o Kaiser Family Foundation and Children Now's "Talking With
Kids" www.talkingwithkids.org

 -- part of the national
initiative by Oakland, Calif.-based Children Now and the
Kaiser Family Foundation of Menlo Park, Calif., which
encourages parents to talk with their children "earlier and
more often" about sex, HIV/AIDS, violence, and alcohol and
drug abuse. Information is available in both English and
Spanish (Contraceptive Technology Update, 2/00 issue).
