(MSM) Youth Outreach Specialist (part-time 20 hrs)


This position with AIDS Partnership Michigan will conduct outreach and case finding activities at locations frequented by young black men who have sex with men, ages 13-24 years (and other young MSM) who are HIV positive and not in care to encourage them to enter into primary care, case management and other psychosocial services; and refer those at significant risk for HIV infection to HIV counseling, testing and referral services. Project Director - R.E.C. (Real Enough 2 Change) Boyz

AIDS Partnership Michigan seeks a Project Director for its community-level, peer-driven, HIV prevention intervention targeting young Black men (ages 13-24 years) who have sex with men and ancillary HIV Counseling/Testing services. Responsibilities include ensuring the adaptation/tailoring of the intervention to the target population, program implementation, staff supervision, data collection and reporting. Serves as primary liaison to CDC and other stakeholders. Minimum of BA/BS degree in a human services discipline, working knowledge of issues affecting young Black same sex attracted men including key life contextual issues: individual, interpersonal, social/cultural factors; adolescent developmental tasks, life skills development, community organizing and social marketing skills/experience. Community Health Nurse - Project Coordinator

Under direction of the Director of Clinical Services, plans, organizes and coordinates HIV project activities to ensure the goals and objectives of the project are achieved by efficient and effective utilization of resources.

Graduation from an accredited college or nursing program. A minimum of two years progressively responsible community health nursing experience, excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Computer literacy and experience with an automated patient management system are pluses.

Must be licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Michigan; must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and BCLS certification.

Teen Pregnancy Prevention Consultant

This Public Health Consultant Position serves as a statewide resource on teen pregnancy prevention and provides consultation and technical assistance on this issue within the Department of Community Health, other State Departments and with local communities. Provides program oversight to the Michigan Abstinence Program and works with consultant staff to fulfill all Federal Title V Abstinence Education grant objectives. Provides practical support to the Michigan Provider Taskforce for the Prevention of Teen Pregnancies and technical support related to teen pregnancy prevention to other Adolescent and School Health Programs within the Department.

  • Masters degree in public health or a closely related health field such as Nursing or Social Work is required.
  • Three years of professional, post-master’s experience as a public health consultant or equivalent experience preferred. Thorough understanding of issues related to teen pregnancy prevention, adolescent health, and related topics required.
  • Evaluation experience including data analysis preferred.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and able to travel statewide (occasional out of state and overnights). Must maintain valid vehicle insurance.
  • Proficient computer skills; e.g. word processing, databases, and email.
  • Must be able to transport and lift training materials and equipment if needed.

The Southeastern Michigan HIV/AIDS Council (SEMHAC) seeks volunteers for its Planning Council for the Detroit eligible metropolitan area (EMA) which includes the City of Detroit and the counties of Wayne, Oakland, Lapeer, Macomb, Monroe and St. Clair.

The basic function of the Planning Council is to establish a plan for the delivery of services in the EMA and establish priorities for the use of Part A CARE ACT Funds. Deadline date to apply is May 9, 2008.

NAMES Project

The NAMES Project Michigan Chapter Can Use Your HELP !!
Ever wonder how we do it? Keeping our chapter financial sound that is...well it's simple. Once a year in early May the Michigan Chapter volunteers for the City of Detroit at the weekend long Downtown Hoedown serving beer tents. It can be hard work, but the people (inside and outside the tent) are a lot of fun, the music is great (if you like country that is) and the money (we receive a % of sales) goes to the MI Chapter! We could use your help. If you or anyone you know would be interested in working any/all of our two daily shifts Friday, May 9 - Sunday, May 11 please consider volunteering. We need persons to help keep stock up (cups and ice), people to take orders and handle money from the public and people to work the beer kegs (we will have some 13 open at any given time). HIV Prevention Leadership Summit

There is still a need for volunteers for this conference coming to Detroit in June. For a minimum of volunteer time, individuals will receive one day of comp registration at HPLS. There is now a schedule of workshops that can be checked before signing up for blocks of time you may be available to volunteer. A Positive Perspective

TEENS & ADULTS living with HIV/AIDS needed for speaking engagements in Michigan.

The statewide speakers bureau, A Positive Perspective needs people living with HIV/AIDS to tell their stories. We are particularly looking for people ages (18-25) and/or those in the Kalamazoo, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Jackson and Traverse City areas, but also need speakers in the metropolitan Detroit area. Speakers are provided training to deliver their messages about their lives before, during and after diagnosis, what it is like to live with HIV/AIDS, and how HIV/AIDS has impacted them, and/or their families. Speakers are paid a stipend for speaking engagements.

HAPIS seeking Program Review Panel Members

MDCH/HAPIS-funded HIV prevention programs and health departments can use only educational items that have been approved by the peer review panel coordinated by HAPIS. The Program Review Panel is composed of staff and volunteers of HIV programs from across Michigan. In order to expedite the review of the hundreds of brochures, manuals, books and videos submitted, HAPIS is looking for ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERS. The estimated time commitment is between two and eight hours per month.

There are several ways you can be involved:

  • Educational Brochure Review Group. You can participate in this review panel sub-group from any location in the state. Materials will be mailed to you for your review every month (2-5 hours per month).
  • Video Review Group. A special video review group will meet in a central location to screen videos. These meetings will likely be in southeast Michigan, but if we get enough volunteers in an out-state area we will come to your part of the state for a video review day (5-8 hours per month).
  • Curriculum and Book Review Group. These will be special review sessions to screen materials that cannot be duplicated and reviewed by mail. These meetings will likely be in southeast Michigan, but if we get enough volunteers in an out-state area we will come to your part of the state for a curriculum review day (5-8 hours per quarterly meeting).
