HAPIS Prevention Grantees
HIV Prevention Quality Assurance Activities
During 2002, HAPIS/DHAS implemented a new quality assurance program for
community-based providers of HIV prevention services. Activities associated with
the new program include on-site consultations and program reviews with all
agencies.
Both program consultants and grantees reported they have found the process
very helpful. HAPIS/DHAS staff improved their understanding of the structure and
operations of grantee agencies, the HIV prevention services being delivered by
grantees as well as challenges and facilitators to success. Similarly, grantees
reported improved understanding of the strengths and weaknesses in local program
monitoring and quality assurance and, most importantly, an enhanced
understanding of HAPIS/DHAS expectations regarding provision of high-quality,
evidence-based prevention services.
In preparation for the new project period for HIV prevention services, HAPIS/DHAS
program consultants intend to review the experience and findings from this first
year, and make appropriate refinements to the protocol, processes and
procedures.
