Legislative Education Skills-Building Workshop

The Information & Education Workgroup of the African American AIDS Advisory Committee (A4C), Michigan HIV/AIDS Council, will be holding the first of two “Legislative Education Skills-Building Workshops” on Friday, May 23, 2008.  The workshop will cover the Michigan budget, how the legislative process works and how one can educate legislators on important issues.  The workshop is open to anyone wanting to learn these skills. See the Agenda.

9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Please complete and return the RSVP form no later than Friday May 9, 2008.  Lunch will be provided so it is important to let me know if you plan on attending the meeting.  If you have special dietary needs, please indicate that on the RSVP form.

9th Annual Michigan Substance Abuse Conference Michigan

This Annual Conference, to be held , provides an educational and networking opportunity for people with a common interest in substance abuse services and related issues.
The agenda includes activities designed for substance abuse and community mental health agencies and service providers, board members, program administrators and medical directors, clinicians and clinical supervisors, preventionists, law enforcement and criminal justice personnel, the recovery community, policy makers, and concerned citizen organizations. The conference provides expert speakers, workshops, and peer-to-peer learning on a wide range of contemporary issues.

Ethiopian Cultural Orientation

The Division of Health, Wellness and Disease Control (DHWDC) cordially invites you to attend a cultural orientation conducted by the Ethiopian delegation from the Amhara HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (HAPCO), who are participating in the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors’ (NASTAD) twinning partnerships with DHWDC.

The second orientation will be held at the Holiday Inn South in Lansing, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Friday, May 2.

Practical Health Tips from a Long Term Survivor Expert
Midwest AIDS Prevention Project (M.A.P.P.) is sponsoring a community program on May 6, 2008 at Como’s Restaurant & Pizzeria from 6:00pm-8:00pm. All interested in attending must R.S.V.P. by Friday May 2nd. Dinner will be provided and a IPOD Shuffle will be raffled. Space is limited!

5th National Conference on Health Issues in the Arab American Community

The Arab American Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS) looks forward to hosting the 5th National Conference on Health Issues in the Arab American Community. This conference continues the fine tradition established in 1998 and continues to affirm our strong commitment to prevent disease, reduce health disparities, and promote wellness in the community at large. Strategically designed, the conference offers medical practitioners, public health, and mental health professionals an academic forum to showcase their research, health programs and activities and to interact with peers who have similar interests and focus.

The topics of the conference include immigration and health, cardiovascular disease, cancer, lifestyle and health outcomes, tobacco use, environment, mental health, and HIV/AIDS and STI's.
